first_img RelatedOpenSkies gains US approvalOpenSkies gains US approvalBA acquires L’AvionBA acquires L’AvionOpenSkies to fly to New York from OrlyOpenSkies to fly to New York from Orly British Airways subsidiary OpenSkies launched its first flight from Paris to New York this week.The airline, whose creation was facilitated by the Open Skies agreement between the EU and the US, ran its first commercial flight between Paris Orly and New York’s JFK on Thursday (June 19th).Willie Walsh, chief executive of British Airways, said: “This is an exciting new chapter in our history as, for the first time, we will be flying directly between continental Europe and the US.”We are confident that OpenSkies will have a successful future.”OpenSkies flights are currently operated by one aircraft, with an additional plane set to join the fleet later this year as part of BA’s plan to have six in service by the end of 2009.The airline is planning new flights to New York from Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Milan.To coincide with the launch of OpenSkies, British Airways recently announced an improvement plan at JFK.
